Webinar Replay - Balanced = 70/30 – or does it? Broadening advisers’ investment choice (Sunsuper)

Are all investment options either "Growth" or "Defensive" - or is there something in the middle... and how do you know what's what?

This is a recording of the Webinar that Andrew did on behalf of Sunsuper, for the Advice Movement on the 12th of December, 2019. Below is just some of what we covered in the Webinar:

With Investment Markets entering a new era of low growth and client’s expectations around returns still being what they were before the GFC - there is a real struggle to find ways to meet clients’ needs around their investment performance yet maintaining their risk appetite.

With the constant change within the financial planning industry pulling advisers’ focus in different directions, sometimes it might just be easier to do things the way we have always done them. A Balanced fund is 70 / 30, right? Cash and Fixed Interest are your only defensive assets in a portfolio? Does your dealer group set tight parameters around what is a growth and defensive asset? If you are self-licenced do you have the ability or desire to broaden your investment choices?

But do you have the time? Do you have the tools?

Advisers are regularly faced with products which question these set conventions, in this webinar Sunsuper want to challenge some of the conventional thinking about the way the financial planning industry looks at and defines assets. The aim of the session will be to provide you tools to challenge those definitions and think outside the traditional so that you can analytically review at the way you look at a portfolio and ask yourself – are you on the right track or do you need to review your philosophy moving into 2020 and beyond?

In this webinar Andrew Fisher, Head of Asset Allocation for Sunsuper, will discuss;
• Are there assets that sit between growth and defensive?
• How Advisers can add value to your clients by using these appropriately to improve returns and reduce risk
• Techniques that Sunsuper use to help identify how growth or defensive an asset is
• Real life case studies using actual assets to help you to illustrate how to think about understanding the growth/defensive characteristics of different assets.

So do you follow the herd or take a leap?
